City of Austin Sound Regulations Survey & Better Mopac Coalition Open House

Take the

City of Austin Sound Regulations Survey

Deadline April 30

The City of Austin is exploring potential updates to City Code regarding the use of non-vehicular motors and engines in the right-of-way, including landscape and maintenance equipment, and we want to hear from you.

We are seeking your input to help identify clear, implementable, and enforceable approaches. The goal is to find solutions that support community livability across Austin.

To take our survey, or learn about other engagement opportunities,

visit our Public Input page.

Share your experiences and perspectives on noise from non-vehicular equipment in the public right of way. Your feedback gives us the community perspective we need to

inform any future changes.

MOPAC SOUTH EXPANSION TOWN HALL

Better Mopac Coalition

When: Wednesday, April 22, 6:00-8:00 PM

Where: Austin High School Cafeteria, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, TX 78703

What?: Come listen, learn, ask questions, and take action on the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) proposal to expand Mopac over and adjacent to Austin High, Lady Bird Lake, and many miles south with 6 to 8 new lanes, 4 of them toll lanes. This proposed 8.8 mile project would extend from Slaughter Lane to Enfield Road. Some contend that extending Mopac to Enfield sets the state for a further northern extenion that would necessarily take slices of neighborhoods.

At the April 22nd Town Hall, we will hear from the speakers listed, engage with each other through Q&A, and make our voices heard. Free pizza, drinks, and childcare provided.

This major project was first proposed in 2012 and then put on the shelf for 10 years, in large part because of public concerns about dverse effects to Austin High, Lady Bird Lake, Zilker Park and Barton Springs, and also to Mopac commuters. Those concerns remain.

Your Role in Shaping a Better MoPac

The CTRMA’s draft Environmental Assessment claims ‘no significant impact’, but experts disagree. Our concerns are the major effects on water quality, endangered species, and neighboring communities. The official public comment period ends May 3. Submit written comments to CTRMA

( Link to submit comments here).

Community voices are crucial to secure a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and ensure that safer, more sustainable alternatives are considered for this highly sensitive and cherished area of Central Texas.
