OWANA – Year End Check-In, & Looking Ahead

open for neighborhood updates!

End of Year Check-In & Happenings

Hello Neighbors! Are you ready for the New Year? Here are a few important events and updates we wanted to share with you.

First off, for fun: join us January 1st for the Polar Bear Plunge into Barton Springs.

Now, a few notes as we wrap up 2025:

1. Flower Hill Center is closing in on their fundraising goals, but not there yet. Your timely support will be matched, furthering Flower Hill Center’s great work in our community for 2026 and beyond. Click here.

2. Good news – West Austin Park Overlook received the approval of the General Permit for the project!

Next steps: (a) receive the Parkland Development Agreement from the City of Austin Legal dept (now sitting with them for 6+ months), (b) work with TBG (the design firm) to secure bids, and (c) then determine final fundraising plan for 2026. More details to come in January.

3. Did you see KVUE’s coverage of the demolition at 6th & Lamar demolition? Take a look at the video for a quick up date on what’s happening at that site.

(BTW, I’m learning you never know what might be “grabbed” out of 10+ minute interview and put on air or in an article.)

And, for additional information on how OWANA works on these types of projects, check out more examples of how OWANA’s amazing Zoning Team is working positively with developers and the City of Austin.

4. Mayor Watson requested OWANA provide questions regarding the YMCA Town Lake PUD. Please see the cover email and the questions provided, which were shared with the YMCA and City Council.

And, for reference, here are prior TownLake YMCA PUD materials:

5. Last, but most important, for those we have lost in 2025 – our dear neighbors, family, and friends – we honor, celebrate, and acknowledge their lives. We are blessed they were in our lives and will remain forever in our hearts.

Thank you for reading and for your support!

Steve Amos, Chair of OWANA Steering Committee

And as always, thank you to our Gold level sponsors C3 Entertainment, Astound Broadband, Griffith Properties, Zydeco Development, Jeffrey’s, and Clark’s Oyster Bar.
