OWANA Mid-Summer Update

We wanted to send out an update since so much is happening in our neighborhood, city and the state of Texas. Please read below for ways you can be an active citizen. And stay tuned for another message from us after this one with Clarkville CDC events. Thank you!

Salvation Army

If you would like to volunteer to help with flood impacts here in Austin, please go to the Austin Disaster Relief Network’s sign-up page, and/or you can go to the Volunteer Reception Center at Plain Elementary School (501 S. Brook Drive, Leander, TX 78641) for on-site volunteering opportunities.

July 17 Budget and Bond Discussion

Our City Council member Zo Qadri is hosting a budget open house on Thursday, July 17, 6-7:30pm to hear your thoughts about the upcoming city budget. We encourage you to attend, share your voice, and say hello to City Council Member Zo. Let him know you live in Old West Austin, and that you are an OWANA member!

Ask that he support OWANA’s Zoning Committee’s recommendations.

There will be a presentation from the City’s Budget Officer, Kerri Lang, remarks from Council Member Qadri, and then he will make his way around the room chatting with folks individually about their concerns and priorities for the City of Austin’s FY 2025-2026 budget.

Parking will be validated for the Austin Public Library parking garage for those who drive to the event.

They will also be serving dinner!

Please RSVP per individual so they are able to have plenty of food.

July 4th Parade

We had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel our fun July 4th parade due to thunderstorms that morning, but we wanted to extend a thank you to those involved in the planning, decision to cancel, and our vendor partners.

OWANA Volunteers and Steering Committee Members: Erika Tatum, Claudette Kazzoun, Renae Alsobrook, Evelyn Fujimoto, Steve Amos

Vendor Partners: Better Half Coffee & Cocktails (Mark and Kristen), Blowcomotion, Central Texas Face Painting (Emily), Mom and Pop Popsicles (Manuel), and WOW! Donut on Bee Caves. Please show your gratitude by shopping and supporting these amazing businesses.

September OWANA Meeting

Please save the date for our next General Membership meeting, on September 9 at the Mathews Elementary School cafeteria. Get there early (doors will open at 6:30) so you can chat with neighbors before we promptly start the meeting.
